Plasma Stability and Control Topical Group
TERMS OF REFERENCES
The Plasma Stability and Control Topic Group (MHD) is charged with promoting and co-ordinating research developments in Europe under EFDA in the area of control, mitigation and avoidance of plasma instabilities, and understanding of the consequences of a significant fast particle population for the plasma stability, in particular by performing the following activities:
generating a consensus of the EU fusion community in the field of MHD in support of ITER physics, in preparation for ITER operation (e.g. scenario development) and in view of DEMO;
supporting the EFDA leader in the elaboration of a long term programme on MHD and of the annual Work Programme;
ensuring ITER needs are taken into account;
promoting the execution of experiments on the EU devices in support of this programme;
identifying when EU expertise needs to be concentrated on the resolution of specific issues;
promoting collaborations between fusion Associations to ensure that the relevant expertise is made available, promoting the participation of new member states and broadening the involvement of universities;
providing advice and expertise on the development, benchmarking and validation of relevant modelling codes in liaison with the EU Integrated Tokamak Modelling TF;
maintenance of an EU expert knowledge base in the relevant physics and technology;
providing advice to EFDA on specific MHD matters when required by the EFDA Leadership;
providing support to the EFDA Leader in the development of activities for potential ITER application;
providing
advice to the EFDA leader on training needs.
